How to enable dark mode in Google Chat

Recently Google brought dark mode to Google Chat on the web. For those unfamiliar with Google Chat, it is the instant messaging platform of the Google Workspace suite of tools where you can have direct chats with team members or create chat rooms to discuss broader projects.

If the company you work for uses Google Workspace, you will almost certainly use Google Chat daily on your mobile and desktop. The mobile Google Chat apps have had a dark mode for quite a while. Now you can easily enable dark mode for Google Chat on the desktop version.

To enable dark mode in Google Chat on the web, do this:

  • Open Google Chat

  • Click the Settings cog icon in the top right

  • Scroll down the Settings and select Dark mode

  • Then click Done

You should now have dark mode enabled in Google Chat. At the moment, for some inexplicable reason, the "Tasks" area of a Chat Room remains in Light mode even once Dark mode has been enabled. Hopefully, Google will fix this bug.

Your business should be using Google Chat

Google Chat makes it easy for teams to communicate and collaborate - internally and externally. Unlike Microsoft Team and Slack, there is no software to install and keep updating.

Google Chat runs from inside Google Chrome and its mobile apps, making it easy to keep up to date with your team and manage and assign tasks while collaborating on documents simultaneously.

If your business is struggling with communication and collaborating remotely, you should book a video call with us today.
