Did you know? You can add travel times to events in Google Calendar.
When you add an event to your calendar, most, including Google Calendar, do not factor in the travel time to get to an event. It would seem most calendar software assumes we teleport everywhere.
Recently, we discovered a hidden feature in Google Calendar that lets you add travel time to your events so your team or anyone else with access to your calendar knows you're out of the office travelling to an event.
It is also helpful if you use event booking software that connects with your Google Calendar, such as Calendy, as it will prevent people from booking a meeting with you while you're travelling, as your journey will be marked by an event in your calendar.
How to add travel time to an event you have in Google Calendar.
You can either follow the instructions below or subscribe to our YouTube channel and watch the video.
First off, you need to create an event in your Google Calendar with a location.
Once you have made the event, using the calendar overview view, click on the event, then click on the location.
The Google Maps sidebar should then open, with a blue Directions button for you to click.
Google Maps may suggest some routes you can take to the location based on your preferred method of travel.
Select the route you want to use and click Add to Calendar.
A new travel time event should appear just before the event you created.
You have now added a travel time event to your calendar, letting others know you are not around.
